I had a Zoom call recently with a program member who was very upset after being exposed to medication bias by an individual who had not a clue what it was like to live with the stigma and suffering, physiologically and psychologically, of living with a lifetime of the chronic disease of obesity.
It was the same old story of being shamed, accused of her body weight being her own fault, and inability to lose weight and prevent regain as if it were a lack of discipline, lack of will power, moral failing, and character flaw. The offending individual didn’t come right out and say it, but the implication was clear. “Why don’t you just eat less and exercise more?”
I was incensed, so I immediately set up my camera and made the following video about medication and obesity bias.
